103a-Chemulpo (Inchon) Korea
Chemulpo, called Jenchuan by the Chinese, is now known as Incheon. It lies at the mouth of the Han, or Salee River, leading to Seoul. Most traders and travelers to Korea landed here. Dr. Woods' journal provides some clarification. "We are gradually getting a knowledge of the topography of the country and within the last few days have learned that Jenchuan is the name of a large village five miles from the landing, and hence the Coreans apply that name to the new town which the Japanese call Chemulpo...".
